Spring Retreat

New Mexico Arts & Crafts Festival Keynote Exhibit

The New Mexico Quilters’ Association has the immense honor of being selected as the 2013 Keynote Exhibit at the New Mexico Arts & Crafts Festival. The Fair is one of the top shows in the nation and largest events in the state. Over 220 of New Mexico’s preeminent artisans are drawn to the juried and judged event boasting $4,500 in prizes. The Festival features an open-air youth art exhibit, jurors ‘exhibit, silent auction, and artist demonstrations. This is a wonderful opportunity to publicize our organization, showcase the work of our members, and bring recognition to quilting as fine art. The Fair is generously permitting the sale of tickets for our Balloon Fiesta Raffle quilt, which supports our programming and charitable endeavors. Signup are taking place for those interested in promoting our organization to the to the 15,000 art enthusiasts who attend the show, which averages $700,000 in yearly sales. The Festival runs June 21 (10-9), 22 (10-5), and 23(10-4). It is held in the Manuel Lujan Jr. Exhibit Complex on Heritage Avenue within the EXPO New Mexico located at Central and San Pedro in Albuquerque, NM. NMQA will have a 20’ x 100’ space in Hall C and will be provided with pipe and drape. If you are interested in featuring your quilted work, please e-mail your contact information and your entry’s measurements, title, pattern source, quilters’ name, and description (inspiration, materials, techniques used, etc.) limited to 100 words to Afton Warrick at aftonwarrick@hotmail.com by May 20.  There is no fee to apply for NMQA members. Membership is $25. Demonstrators are also sought to share their techniques first hand. Those willing to allow patrons to view their works-in-progress pertaining to beading, appliqué, modern quilting, paper piecing, binding, free-motion quilting, handwork, piecing, ribbonwork, etc. are sought. If you would like to discuss your methods, materials, and inspiration face-to-face at the show, please e-mail Afton Warrick at aftonwarrick@hotmail.com by May 20.

Tea Party

May 16^th will be our Tea Party and you are all invited to attend.

We will have games and prizes for everyone.

If you bring a guest please sign them up so we can get a count for 

gifts and how much food to prepare for.

Please dress up with fancy hats,gloves, pretty dresses and fun jewelery (only if you want to, it is not required) This is a Tea Party and we should all have a bit of play/pretend time if we want to.

Please bring a place mat and table setting (ie. Plates, teacups and saucers, forks, knives and spoons.) There may be prizes for the best dressed, best table setting and best food.

There are sign up sheets for food and number of guests attending. We also need some tea pots borrowed from members so if you have any please sing up for that. There is also a sign up sheet for helping set up, serve food and clean up after the party.

My hope is that we will be able to mingle and enjoy each others company as well as have some fun.

Spring Show

Woo, hoo.  I just got off the phone with Simon who is the guy from the city who makes sure all of the ropes are up for the quilt show.  He told me they've been working to make the part beautiful for Sunday the 28th.  He said the grass is lush, the fountain is running and there are spring flowers blooming!

 

So, now I just need to be sure we'll have loads of quilts to make the park even prettier.  Please bring plenty of quilts, even if you've displayed them before...old quilts, new quilts, big and little quilts...we love them all.

 

Barbara will have index cards for you to make a label for your quilt.  If your quilt is for sale please use a colored card.

 

We have some fun vendors planned for this year - new ones as well as those we've had before. Our Victrola guy will be there as well as Pat's band and in the afternoon there will be a dedication for a new flower bed at the park.

 

• Kathy Sublett has been doing an absolutely fantastic job of advertising the show, so we'll be expecting a large crowd.  You can pick up some flyers from her this week to post or share with friends!

 

As always, I hope each of you is working to ensure we will have beautiful weather.

 

I am always so appreciative to each of you who step in to make this event happen every year, those who volunteer to bake cookies, pass out cold bottles of water, sit at the greeter's table, give out hot coffee, sell raffle tickets, bring quilts, and everything else!

 

Will you do me a favor and encourage our new members to bring quilts and come and enjoy the day!
