The New Mexico Quilters’ Association has the immense honor
of being selected as the 2013 Keynote Exhibit at the New Mexico Arts &
Crafts Festival. The Fair is one of the top shows in the nation and largest
events in the state. Over 220 of New Mexico’s preeminent artisans are drawn to
the juried and judged event boasting $4,500 in prizes. The Festival features an
open-air youth art exhibit, jurors ‘exhibit, silent auction, and artist
demonstrations. This is a wonderful opportunity to publicize our organization,
showcase the work of our members, and bring recognition to quilting as fine art.
The Fair is generously permitting the sale of tickets for our Balloon Fiesta
Raffle quilt, which supports our programming and charitable endeavors. Signup
are taking place for those interested in promoting our organization to the to the
15,000 art enthusiasts who attend the show, which averages $700,000 in yearly
sales. The Festival runs June 21 (10-9), 22 (10-5), and 23(10-4). It is held in
the Manuel Lujan Jr. Exhibit Complex on Heritage Avenue within the EXPO New
Mexico located at Central and San Pedro in Albuquerque, NM. NMQA will have a 20’
x 100’ space in Hall C and will be provided with pipe and drape. If you are
interested in featuring your quilted work, please e-mail your contact
information and your entry’s measurements, title, pattern source, quilters’
name, and description (inspiration, materials, techniques used, etc.) limited
to 100 words to Afton Warrick at aftonwarrick@hotmail.com by May 20. There is no fee to apply for NMQA members. Membership is $25. Demonstrators
are also sought to share their techniques first hand. Those willing to allow
patrons to view their works-in-progress pertaining to beading, appliqué, modern
quilting, paper piecing, binding, free-motion quilting, handwork, piecing,
ribbonwork, etc. are sought. If you would like to discuss your methods,
materials, and inspiration face-to-face at the show, please e-mail Afton

Thimbleweed Quilters is a program of the City of Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. Thimbleweed Quilters meet the first and third Thursday of each month from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm at Sabana Grande Recreation Center in Rio Rancho.
