267 Pounds of Food Collected for Storehouse
Lynn just reported that we donated 267 lbs of food to our local Storehouse! Remember she will be collecting at the next meeting as well. I just noticed in the Smith's grocery flyer, that they have their case sale going on...cases of corn, tuna, beans, etc...that would be 24 tickets in the can for that pretty, pretty quilt!

First September Meeting
It's time for the first September meeting!
If you don't have a nametag or you just want a new one you can make one at the meeting this week. Just bring a hand sewing kit that includes an embroidery needle, pencil or heat away marker and scissors. Thimbleweed will provide the rest.
Bring your things for Batik swap, block of the month any last minute questions before we go to camp.
And remember, Wanda is collecting all manner of things for the retreat silent auction. If you have UFO's, fabric, patterns, or any goodies, you can either bring them to her at the meeting, or bring them to camp!
Don't forget to bring your food donations for Storehouse West. Remember, every item donated gets your name in the raffle for that beautiful (I'd like to win it!) quilt!! And, this is a lean time of year for the Storehouse, so we're really filling a void here!

AQS Show & Upcoming Retreat
Hello Quilters,
Hummingbird Quilt Camp is almost here! I can't wait. We have all kinds of fun things planned. Remember last year and the wild weather we had. The water was rushing down the cliff walls and over the road! Hopefully it will be beautiful fall weather by then, but come prepared. Look in the newsletter for more info.
It's going to be time to start putting together the calendar for next year soon. Be thinking about what you might want to teach or learn. We will be signing teachers up soon.
We voted at the last meeting to ask NMQA if they could help us with volunteers for the AQS show in January. In exchange for their help they can bring their raffle quilt to sell tickets on. We were in agreement that this is a good idea. Now Barbara G and Afton will take the proposal to the NMQA board for their approval. We will keep the coat & package check room for our money maker at the AQS show.
Happy Stitching,
Colleen Konetzni

News
Finally, this is Thimbleweeds week! We'll be meeting at Star Heights rather than Sabana Grande.
There is a lot going on!
1. Pay the remainder of your camp fee.
2. Sign up for Kathy Sublett or Barbara Gary's class. There is a $5 kit fee for either class.
3. Dangle swap. Bring your 25 dangles to the meeting. If you don't bring them, or send them with a friend, you're out of luck...there's no easy way to include latecomers.
4. Call Becky Welch if you want a thread or fabric kit for camp.
This is the meeting for Jeanne's cute styrofoam lunch carrier, so come prepared! Please bring your own extension cords, irons, etc, since we won't have the supplies from Sabana.
And...between the ticket sales at Thimbleweeds and Fay's efforts with Civitan, we've already raised nearly $150 on the raffle quilt by Holly and Kathy L. for the Rio Rancho girl who is hving an organ transplant!
And, below is a note from Barbara Gary:
I Hate to Paper Piece but…
Dear Thimbleweed members.
It is with great joy that I want to share the fabulous techniques I have learned over the past three years on my journey to become a Judy Niemeyer Certified Instructor. On September 18, I will be teaching some of the techniques needed to make one of Brad and Judy Niemeyer’s fascinating quilts. Foundation papers will be provided to make an 18 inch block which can then be used to create a pillow or a customized bag or a wall hanging.
When you have completed this block I hope that you will be able to fill in the rest of the class title with things like
… I like this method,
… I’m hooked on the precision of this method, or
… I like this method so much I want to make a king size Bali Wedding Star.
A $5.00 fee will cover the cost of the papers provided for this class. There will be a sign-up sheet and a supply list available for this class beginning August 21 so that I have a count for the patterns. I will need to have my final count by September 4, 2014. If you can’t make the meeting to sign up, please contact me atpicsonfabric@yahoo.com.
Barbara Gary
And this note comes from Lynn:
Hello Thimbleweeders!
Seems like we’re having a very hard time getting our Christmas in July (August – September) quilt raffled off. Anyway, with the change in our meetings in August, I’d like to postpone food collection once again until September. So thanks for your patience and come with your bags of food for StoreHouse West in September. Thanks for your support!
Lynn

I received news from Loretta Trescott and Hazel, that Dorothea Stoffer passed away on Saturday. She was a member for many years. I remember her as a quiet, but witty, kind and thoughtful woman. There won't be any services, but if you want to send a card the address is in your membership roster.
And, while I've got your attention...most of you received word that the next two meetings will be at Star Heights. If you weren't notified (like me), perhaps you've neglected to pay your membership. I found out it's really quick to just call Parks and Rec and charge it to your card :)
Hope you've got your dangles done and the quilting part of Jeanne's class - if not, you have homework this week!

Ladies,
I received this note from Anita this evening. I think she'd also appreciate a quick note or card. I can tell you from experience that cards and notes work miracles!
A note to ask for prayers for husband Ed, who became seriously ill, was hospitalized the 27th. He had a challenging, gangrenous gall bladder surgery of five hours on the 29th. Prayers would be appreciated, especially that there's no more complications.
Thanks so very much,
Anita Blanton

Announcements
Ladies,
Please remember there isn't a meeting this week, or next week, or the week after that! We won't meet again until the 21st of August. That's the day of Jeanne's styrofoam lunch carrier project. It is just beautiful and I know you'll want to participate. If you need information you can call Jeanne.
We will also be swapping the dangles on the 21st.day. If you signed up for the dangle swap and won't be there, give your dangles to someone to bring.
That will also be the day to make your final Hummingbird payment. Please remember to call Becky Welsch if you want a thread or project kit for Hummingbird.
And...Kathy Sublett will be teaching her 3D class we all enjoy on the 28th. There is a $5 kit fee, so call her if you want to sign up for that. I think you want to take this...all of the parts are cut, so you just get the fun of making the block!
This note came from Gini, and concerns those of you interested in a small group:

And finally, from Bobbie:
Robin Cockrell was a long time member of Thimbleweeds and has moved to Oklahoma where her husband is now employed. Robin worked with Community Service for many years, housing the fabric and batting for TW. Many of you would see her hauling in tubs of the fabric, batting and unfinished quilts to many meetings, she along with others would cut many kits at home for us to sew and kept track of all the quilts to be donated to various organizations. If you can, would you please make her a block, then turn it back into Phyllis and lets show Robin that Thimbleweeds is very thankful for all the hard work she did for so many years.
Robin Cockrell 9.5" unfinished block
Fabric: Batik
Colors: Turquoise, Purple & Lime Green
Your block can be either pieced or applique, totally your choice. Blocks will be collected by Phyllis Allen up until the last meeting in October which will be October the 16th.
Thank You Ladies!!!!
Bobbie
I think that covers everything on my list,

Next Meeting
We're going to have a fun and busy meeting this week!
First, Jo White will do a little trunk show of things she has made from vintage quilt parts, then we'll have a community service sew in. We won't have a business type meeting so we can fit in everything else.
Our community service projects for Thursday will be completing the rest of the apron kits and luggage tag kits. We need lots of helpers and 3 more sewers. If you can bring your sewing machine we would greatly appreciate it. We have lots of jobs for pressers. Bring a sack lunch and they'll be a desert SURPRISE!! We also have 20 take home kits. Once we power out this day, we will have all the gifts we need for the Fiber Arts Fiesta for next year.
Barbara, Sandy and Kathy Questions call 867-2138
Also, Bobbie will be at the meeting this Thursday with some of Loretta's Loot (Thread, Needles, Rotary Cutters & Blades, some Marking Pens and some Small Gingher Scissors). If you have a friend who doesn't have e-mail, you might give them a heads up.
We'll also be taking sign ups for Hummingbird. There are about 4 spots left.
Monday, June 30, 2014
Meeting Reminders
This is the meeting to sign up for the retreat! Spots go fast, so don't delay.
Remember your batik swap and block of the month!
And...we'll be having our Wanda and Jerilynn mystery project, bring either sewing, ironing or cutting supplies and one yard of 1 1/2" X WOF strips. Thimbleweeds will provide lunch, so bring a dessert if you are so inclined! This is going to be a fun little project, so bring a friend if you'd like!
Wednesday, June 25, 2014
Next Meeting Update
Jo White had to cancel for our next meeting, so Colleen, Wanda and I have cooked up a fun, fun way to spend the day....and we hope you'll all play along!
The Fun and Games committee will be supplying lunch! We just need a few people to bring dessert! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
It will be a fun team project, so plan to come and play with us!
If you know someone who might not get my e mails, would you take a minute to call them up and let them know about this change.
Friday, May 30, 2014
Bette Gordon
Many of you will remember Bette Gordon, a longtime Thimbleweeds member. Bette passed away on Wednesday. Her services will be tomorrow, May 30th at the Daniels' Funeral home on Sara Road. If you know someone who doesn't read e mail, and who needs to know this information, please give them a call.

Updates from Donna
I had several e mails about the supply list for the June 5th meeting. According to Carol it will be in the newsletter, but it includes a hexagon ruler, basic sewing supplies, sewing machine (if you wish to sew there), rotary cutter and mat, iron and fabric ( I used 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 strips) and cotton batting. (And remember, you don't have to buy a hexagon ruler, we'll have them to share).
And....sign up now for Barbara Gary's world famous 2014 Del Norte Quilt-in If you've never attended this event, you'll love it...Barbara and her team do all the prep, so you just sew!!
Remember this month has 5 Thursdays so we won't see you this week.
Next week Carol will be teaching her quilt class....please don't worry about buying the template unless you want one of your own, Thimbleweeds will have some we can share.
And Delores Powers is trying to contact a nice Thimbleweeder she met at Joanne's who was looking for a baby quilt panel.
